Don’t go falling between the cracks (Just embrace life)

Baz – Boar’s Head, Blue Mountains, Austalia

Are there times that you feel like you are falling between the cracks, swallowed up by a world that just doesn’t seem to slow down?

 I’ll confess I do sometimes…

Baz – sliding through the crack, Boar’s Head, Australia

But whenever I do I get a little echo in my mind, a little ditty that TomO said to me before competing in New Zealand’s Speight’s Coast to Coast Adventure Race earlier this year.

“Dad just go out there and embrace it, enjoy yourself” TomO said,

Baz – Mountain Run, Coast to Coast Race, New Zealand
Now would be a good time to embrace it Baz!

Crikey, it blew me away at the time, but you know, it sounds like damn good advice to me…

So I’m going to get out there and embrace the day, hit it head-on…

Baz& TomO – embracing the moment

And remember, if all else fails, just Like The Landy on Facebookremain out of control and see what develops…

You’re totally my hero. I am glad you have the chance to do these things but man…I take a look at your photos and it kind of freaks me out how risky some of that stuff is.

Awe…blushing now (are men allowed to blush?). Thankyou… We are climbing “Sweet Dreams” in the Blue Mountains this weekend. It is a spectacularly beautiful climb, so hopefully so pictures to share later… Take care, Baz

I did some climbing and mountain trekking in Japan, California, Spain and Canada but nothing too hard core. I recall being kind of frightened or at least nervous some of the time and fairly happy to be back on flatter land.
        😀 so you’re definitely a breed apart! 😀

I must say I don’t have any problem with heights, which probably helps…

Me, not so much the heights as the idea that I can die at any moment! I was trail running/hiking in the Sierra Madres in California a couple years ago and the mountain trail was so narrow, rock wall on one side, fall to death on the other side. The surface of the trail was like ball bearings, little sandy pebbles on rock. I didn’t have good shoes on, running shoes, not even trail running shoes and I felt unstable. I had to hum Shakira songs to take my mind off the descent which was twice as scary as the ascent!

Crikey, that is on the edge…literally. I’d be happy to walk, not sure about running!

On a mountain there is a lot of “walking” which is more like hiking, but downhill we try to run. It was dangerous, from what I am used to. you could go around a curve on a switchback and run into a mountain lion, or find the trail is eroded. Even CRAZY mountain bikers can be found up there and there’s no where to move over. I didn’t like it much. thank god in Ohio most of our trails are pretty safe to run. People still get bashed, but they don’t usually die.

It amazes what he comes out with sometimes, and truly as I was doing the Coast to Coast Race those words gave me great encouragement just when I needed it, which was often!

Well, they tried to find a double, but couldn’t come up with anyone as good looking, so yes, I manage to get Out and About on this stuff.

To be honest, I wish I could do it everyday, but I have to keep TomO in X-box games, and Janet in…hell can’t go there (I know which side my bread’s buttered on!)

The photos I have used this week are all from last weekend… Awesome day on Sunday. Where I’m standing it is usually howling a gale up through that crack…wasn’t too bad this time around.

And I will be out there this coming weekend. It is all about ensuring my skills are current and improving ahead of my climb in January (in New Zealand).

We spend a lot of time working on rescues on the rope, normally no pictures of it, as I’m up to my ears in rescuing myself, or my partner!

James Bond hey…yeah, I can see that, “Baz – The Bond from downunder”

Strewth – if Bluey and the boys see this they’ll never let me alone…

Enjoy your Thanksgiving, and thanks for taking an interest! Baz
