I was looking over some of the weekend’s climbing photos and I was admiring one in particular. A beautiful shot of one of the walls we climbed.
A very special place where you could just linger and contemplate the world passing you by.
Anyway, I looked at this photo, quite a few times and to my surprise, there I was sitting on a ledge, where eagles dare!
Janet, TomO, and I looked at this photo numerous times and none of us noticed me sitting there initially (story of my life!).
The photo was snapped by Nick, my climbing partner, after he lead climbed to our next pitch while I belayed him.

It reminded me of the special moments that TomO and I have had looking at his Where’s Wally books that I bought for me him. We loved them, and spent many hours flicking through the pages. And I was actually pretty good at it, maybe that is because I am colour-blind or something!
So, can you pick out “Where’s Baz” in the photo…

Brilliant photo. The rock is amazing, but I really like how you look so relaxed. Just chilling on a ledge far above the ground.

This is one of the most amazing pictures I have seen- does the helmut protect from falling rocks? You must have super strong arms .. my oh my….I have the courage but not the strength- I wish I did- bravo!

It is a great photo, I really do feel like “Where’s Wally”. And yes, the helmet is designed to protect from falling debris. With one or more climbers above you there is always a chance of it…
I’ll preface this…I’m a mere novice on all things rock-climbing , but as you may have seen I’m training and improving my skill base for high altitude climbing and whilst we don’t have big mountains we have plenty of places on our doorstep to climb and abseil. And whilst I train as a weight-lifter and kayaker, and have quite a strong upper body, rock-climbing is mostly about the use of your legs.
There is some arm use, but primarily legs as that is where you can push from, and they give you the stability…
And must say, it is a real buzz being out there!

What an awesome pic – literally, I feel giddy just looking at it! Done a little bit of abseiling in my time – nothing like this, though. Kudos 🙂

I found Wally. Sorry – Baz.
Do you ever ask yourself, ‘what the hell am I doing here?’
I do in some caves!

Not really, I might when I get onto the “big mountains” that I have ambitions for. The 8,000 metre peaks…
I must say the photo looks great, and a bit out there. In climbing terms it is relatively easy, almost like a ladder with all the foot and hand holds along the way…
But none-the-less, all good fun and it is helping keep the skills current and developing!
