About us…
We love the colours of the Australian Outback, the red earth touching a blue sky on a faraway horizon; and the fabulous coastline of our sunburnt country, where a golden sandy beach is washed over by a warm turquoise blue sea…
A few years ago we graduated from work and re-entered the classroom of life where an education is guaranteed and all that is needed is an open mind.
Cheers, Baz & Janet

8000 meters. Wow! The highest I’ve been is 4000 meters, on Mt Kilimanjaro, and I found the altitude even then a challenge. But I’m fascinated by people like you who want to go higher and push themselves to extremes. Looking forward to exploring more of your blog!

Thank you, I’ve got a long way to go before I’m there, but that’s the fun of it, right?
Highest we have in Australia is just under 7,000ft..Off to New Zealand next week to climb, can’t wait!!

Lucky you! I’ve never been to New Zealand but have been told that the coast of British Columbia, where I live, is very like NZ. One day….

Love your blog. Thanks for commenting on mine. I enjoy hearing about the adventures of like minded people. Good luck with your 8,000 metre mountain climbs. You follow in the steps of an awesome aussie climber Andrew Lock. Fortunate to have met him a few years ago as my husband and I trekked to Everest Base Camp. He was just training for a large climb and spent some time with us on Kala Patar, showing us the various parts of the top of Everest which we could see from KP. What a classy gentleman and has climbed all 14 of them. Enjoy the journey!

Thanks for the best wishes, a long way to go, but looking forward to it. I met Andrew a couple of years back as I did an abseil off one of our office buildings that he organised, very nice person. He recently announced his retirement from high altitude climbing…regards!!

Hahaha, yes, I was going to let it slip through, but did feel a little ripped off!! Mind you, there might come a time soon that I was wishing it was 8,000 feet!! Cheers, and thanks for the support!

Good luck with that goal – I will be close to one of those 8000ft mountains next year when I go trekking in the Himalayas. I hope you make it to the top 🙂

It is all work in progress, and as odd as it seems , some of the peaks in New Zealand are probably harder than Cho Oyu, and even Everest, the altitude is the game changer… And good luck on your adventure, I look forward to reading about it…

Having you stop by was perfect timing
I’ve spent most of last week in my 15ft canoe at 10k ft in the Sierra’s here in central California. Where can I get a rig like the one pictured on your site? That thing puts my Jeep with the canoe strapped on top to shame in the homley ( but useful ) department. It will take me some time to get through all of your posts, but I look forward to the camp cooking, off roading & climbing.
Take Care

I must get around to writing about ‘The Landy’. It is a 1995 Landrover Defender 130, completely rebuilt in 2006 and I had a canopy made to house all the ‘touring toys’ in it. We love it! But then we like Red Rover also…I did write about it. Thanks for the interest…

Awesome stuff … I love it when people write words that inspire me to walk into the unknown. Affirms that I am doing something right. Remember there are lots of smaller peaks that are worth hiking up … don’t forget about them 🙂 Table mountain in South Africa is a definite must! Awesome trail running on top. Hehe … keep having fun!
