   Placid water, sky and riverbank reflected in vibrant color. Yes, a state of mind as well as a place. Much like the American west. There is a short essay on the “Internal West” by Emily Walter in High Country News you might enjoy

     Hey Kathy, well some places are extremely dry and arid, other less so…this area is on the fringe of ‘desert dune country’ but sits in the Channel Country – some of the best cattle grazing country in the world…
