Standing back from the edge is safe (But the view is never as good)

After a reasonably steep multi-pitch climb I crossed this snow covered Arête on the way to the summit of Auroa Peak in New Zealand’s Southern Alps.

What a great playground, hey?

Fantasic! I haven’t yet climbed on ice / with cramp-ons. One of these days.

Takes a little practice, but most enjoyable being on ice…

I’m looking forward to trying. I’ve got Mt. Ranier in my sights.

Yep, me too…I’ve always admired this photo and the story it tells.

One of my favourites…it was a great day out there, albeit very cold as we came up the western face early in the morning!

AMAZING ! I have always admired this photo and you are returning in less than 7 days???? Be safe and well and so glad you conquered your injury last year!

Pal thats one of many things I miss about climbing, there is no better view anywhere. The closer to the edge the more you see. It’s worth a bit of risk

Baz – who took the photograph of you on the edge? That is some photo, and some view!

My climbing partner and guide, Steve Moffatt. Steve is a legendary New Zealand climber, who himself has stood on top of Mt Everest, and has been a great teacher and inspiration to myself!

Strewth, come to think of it what was he doing taking a picture, wasn’t he supposed to be “belaying” me across! 😉

The climb is not necessarily a difficult one, but it is quite a long way down – you don’t want to fall, rope or no rope!

      Cheers, Baz
