A popular landmark situated between Bollard’s Lagoon Station and Merty Merty, sand-dune country on the edge of the Strzelecki Desert, Outback Australia…
Well, funny thing is there are a number of old Double Decker buses around as they used them for camps. They must have been cheap. One I saw not so long away was missing part of its roof, the other part of it was underneath some rail overhead bridge!
I always love the tension between what man has made and the harshness of the landscape. We did notice on our travel on the Ghan, that there are a lot of wrecked cars etc scattered among the scrub and sand – but this yellow double-decker beats them all.
I’m actually thinking about running the Larapinta Trail next year. Will depend on money (flying to Alice from Brisbane isn’t cheap) and fitness. But I reckon it’d be cool to do the 230km trail as a stage run / walk over 5-6 days instead of lugging a heavy pack.

Nice trip along the Ghan…not that I’ve done it, but I must have a look at what photos I have of it!

Hmmm … So need to head out west again. I need to get my fix of the bull dust and big skies.

What a great photo! I can just imagine how shocking it must be to stumble upon that in the outback.
