Life in our household is just one big ball of fun, frivolity and adventure. And I must say, we work hard to make sure it is.
Mind you I’m wondering who invented this work thing that seems to wedge itself between the fun days…
And if we do need to suffer this work thing, couldn’t have they come up with a better plan? I mean wouldn’t something like five days of fun, two days of work suit us all just a little bit better?
Actually, I do like my job and I can’t complain too much. I have a great employer, work with a fun bunch of people and besides, it pays the bills and keeps TomO in X-box games.
Okay, yes, it is true, my boss does occasionally read this, so I like to toss him a bone every now and then!
Anyway, today, TomO managed to get through his first date emotionally unscarred, Janet read the Sunday papers on the couch with a hot cup of tea and Milo the wonder dog kept her company…
And long before they surfaced to see if the sun had risen today, I was on my way to the Blue Mountains for a day of abseiling and climbing. It was a fantastic day abseiling from Boar’s Head, and then climbing back out. It is quite a remarkable rock-formation situated not too far from downtown Katoomba.
I have been trying too do as much rope handling, abseiling, and climbing as I can ahead of the ascent of Mount Aspiring, in New Zealand’s Southern Alps this coming January.
The Blue Mountains is a fantastic playground, with something for everyone, and if you love adventure you could get yourself lost there for a thousand life times!
Crikey, I was just looking at some of today’s piccies and thinking, strewth Baz, you can’t even tie your own shoelaces and you’re hanging off the side of a cliff, with a rope you tied a knot in!
Clearly, I’m having better success with rope climbing knots, thankfully!
But back to work tomorrow and that’s another adventure altogether!

Around 40/50 metres on that one, although the climb starts higher than the valley floor. The one from the weekend just gone was over 110 metres, ad it starts 100 metres above the valley floor, so 210 metres in total.

I love those pictures!!! It reminds me of my old hiking and rock climbing days (NYC doesn’t offer me a lot of mountains to climb).

Yes, although perhaps you could scale and abseil some of those tall buildings! We abseiled off the AMP building in Sydney a couple of years back!

Well, I’m not sure about brave, but I must say I just like being Out and About… And I’m making great progress towards the big picture goal… Must say, it is quite refreshing being on the side of a mountain!!
But we all have our thing, and I am a big believer that there simply no ordinary moments, no matter who or where you are! And when it comes to views, how was that place at Sorrento!

I must admit the abseiling you do is far more gutsy than mine. I find the first step over the edge (still) the worst. We do some with our caving club although I tend to stick to the horizontal caves now as my arms aren’t strong enough to pull me back out of the caves !

But that’s the best bit – lay back in your harness, look up at the sky, and embrace it.
It was a great day yesterday, we did three pitches in, and then climbed back out. You can abseil to the bottom and walk out, that requires about five pitches on the abseil…
All good fun!

I could literally feel my stomach flip just looking at those photos. You are much more brave than I! That scenery actually looks kind of similar to the mountains in the Western part of the United States!
I hear ya on the work thing. I’m fortunate enough to love my job, but the weekends always seems so short!!

Yes…I do like my work (but don’t tell the boss – it will go to his head).
Actually, it isn’t too difficult a climb, as far as climbs go. But it looks pretty spectacular, and there are a number of routes you can climb out…
And don’t worry, my stomach flipped as well a couple of times – but that’s why I’m there – sort of.
Brave? Well we all do our own thing! Remember that race you just did, takes courage and bravery to do that as well.

It is such a lovely spot, truly magical, and no matter how many times I go I never get tired of it!
On heights, there was a moment I looked down yesterday and thought…whoa! That’s why I’m there in some ways…
But often it is not the fear of heights that is the problem, it is the fear of falling. Rest assured, we weren’t going to fall off…

Ye of little faith…I must admit, I’d find it a little tough if someone told me they couldn’t tie shoe laces, especially if you were 50 metres up the face standing on a wedge of a ledge…

Remember, you can do anything you want. But it isn’t everyone’s thing, but if it appeals – go of it, no matter what it is!
And on the photos, on the wall I was climbing up, I just sat there for about 15 minutes on a ledge just taking it in. The Blue Mountains is “the ants pasts”… Take care, Baz 😉
