A Race that Stops a Nation (The Melbourne Cup)

The Melbourne Cup

Today we have running of the Melbourne Cup, a race that literally stops a Nation. Run since 1861, it takes place on the first Tuesday in November.

Twenty-four horses will be lining up to race the 3,200 metres at 3:00pm this afternoon in Australia and you will be flat out to find anyone that isn’t tuned in to the running of the “Cup” – the Nation will pause for those breathtaking few minutes, to cheer their horse down to the finish line.

The Fashion

And it isn’t all about the horses, there will be the fashion as well…

And just about anyone you speak to today will have a “tip” for the Melbourne Cup, so here’s mine, Maluckday, by half-a-head. Why, ’cause I reckon it is Ma-lucky-day, that’s how scientific a selection can be!

Good luck to all the punters!

I would LOVE to go to a horse race!!! They have some in Arkansas but I don’t really know when or where. I need to investigate that! Today is about a horse race in your country and a political race in ours. I’d rather be in Austrialia wearing a crazy hat, drinking a beer, watching the horses I must say! Haha!

Yes, should make for an interesting day for me, as it will affect the currencies! But hang on, you can’t drink beer, well not just yet! A couple of weeks to go….remember??

This sounds a lot like the Kentucky Derby or horse races at Keeneland that take place just a couple hour South of where I live. I’ve yet to go, but it’s still on my bucket list! I’m all for any event that gives me the excuse to drink beer and wear a large hat.

I love horse racing!! We have a track near where I grew up, it’s only open in August, but is always an awesome summer place to go !

I feel I was a little short changed on sleep as well. A kookaburra started just before 4am, so I just got up and wrote a story before having a row! Take care…Baz
