Blooming Fantastic (Wildflowers in the Outback)

Recently I’ve been sharing some of the photographs we have taken whilst travelling this fantastic country of ours, Australia.

Whether it is a climber’s perspective of the mountains that I frequently get to view, or perhaps some of the dunes in that part of the country we call The Outback, Australia is a contrast of spectacular colour amongst what is often a harsh and barren land…

But there is a delicate beauty to be found, everywhere, you just need to look.

Janet will spend countless hours searching for, observing, and photographing our wonderful wildflowers, of which there are countless numbers, she never tires of it, saying just one more, another five minutes and I’ll be finished…

Yes, Janet, she does stand out like a beautiful wild flower, in full bloom!

Janet - she's wonderful!

About Baz - The Landy

I'm on a journey to climb one or more of the world's 8,000 metre mountain peaks, and if all goes well an attempt on the summit of Mt Everest. One of the things I like to remind myself of each and every day, is there are no ordinary moments; no ordinary people; no ordinary lives...

Hi Barry, these are beautiful pictures. As I said on Facebook the other day, there are many similarities between our countries. Our ‘flower time’ is in spring, i.e., August-September, mainly in the Western Cape – provided that we had good rains…

Lovely pics! We were lucky enough to be in WA for a most spectacular season of wildflowers a few years ago.
One day we just didn’t get anywhere at all because of the amount of times I wanted to jump out the car and film/photograph.
People tend to think that the outback is just this vast nothing-ness but when you look close it’s packed with tiny little miracles. :)

I guess that all over Earth we have these beautiful “miracles”. Here, in the Western Cape in South Africa, we are fortunate in that we have the highest density of wild flowers in the world. Having said that, I don’t want to be blasé. There are parts of the world that have beautiful flowers that we don’t have. I’d like to see them…

    • Actually the Australian Outback is so vibrant and colourful, and whilst the desert regions are arid, they do get some rain at times and there can be quite a lot of vegetation…Spectacular!

Of course, that goes for the lovely Janet, too… :-)

  4. Love the pond lilies- so different than your regular rugged posts! Nice, I half expected you to be emerging out of that pond!
