Climbing mountains is one way to get your head in the clouds and tomorrow I will be travelling to the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island for another week of adventure in the mountains.
I climbed this breath-taking area last September and I am looking forward to being there again…
And I am certainly hoping for better weather than the blizzard conditions I experienced last week whilst climbing Mt Aspiring and neighbouring peaks.
But mind you, there is more than one way to get your head in the clouds and this morning TomO and I took to the skies over Wanaka, chasing each other in two vintage “Tiger Moths”.
Crikey, I could go on about how good it was, and it is fair to say TomO still has a smile as big as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but why don’t I just let the photo’s do the talking…

Small planes are sooo much fun!
Yep, that’s for sure. Both Janet and I are pilots, although haven’t flown for some time!
Just amazing shots though!
That’s wicked!!! I don’t like heights but my kids would flip! Sorry to hear about aspiring, still sounds like a memorable trip
Howdy, well I missed out on summiting Mt Aspiring, I got in another peak, and this coming week we should “bag” a couple of peaks on the west coast!…Take care, Baz
Gorgeous shots of gorgeous planes. I do envy you!
A great day out there!
Reblogged this on Pickled Wings and commented:
Some great shots of Tiger Moth action over New Zealand!
Thankyou….glad you enjoyed this much!
Tiger Moths and a beautiful landscape, what’s not to like?
Dude what an awesome adventure. Sorry about Mt. Aspiring, but those photos on the plane look amazing!
Nah, all good, Mt Aspiring won’t be going anywhere – we’ll be back for it again. In the meantime off to do some climbing on the West Coast of New Zealand over the next week!
Beautiful looking Moths, Baz – and what fantastic scenery to fly open cockpit over! Looked fantastic. Jealous!
Thought you would love it. These two aircraft were used by the NZAF as training aircraft. The one TomO is in did a circuit of New Zealand’s Coastline in 2010…
The person flying mine has just left the RAF, from Euro fighters back to a graceful age!
Nice plane!!! I’ve always wanted to take flying lessons, one day I’m going to!! It just looks like so much fun!
You know the actual flying of a plane is easier than a car in many ways… I’m going to hold you to this now!
that looks like one wild ride!!! crazy fun!!
On another note, there is a place here that makes his own ice-cream everyday…seriously it is the best, I don’t eat much ice-cream, but eaten plenty of his over the past few days!
And yes, we both had a great time up there!
once again, thanks for taking me on your amazing adventures :}
A pleasure BG!
Love is life
Wow. Those photos are amazing! They are actually making me wonder if I possibly have a fear of heights! TomO is lucky to have such a cool dad!
I’m lucky for sure!
Oh how fun. I really need to get that pilot’s license.
I’ll hold you to that…you’ll love it!
SO COOL!
Such a stunning place to do it!
